Used units

In addition to selling new units for the solidification of melts, engineering and service activities, we offer used units when available. These used units have been in operation at our clients and were bought back from us typically in exchange for a new KAISER unit.

We usually refurbish the units, exchange all worn parts and test the products that will be produced on these units, giving the client a full performance and mechanical guarantee. All of our used units can be inspected at our workshop in Krefeld, Germany, near the Düsseldorf international airport.

Please contact us if you are interested in one of our used units.
If you have an existing KASIER unit and are interested in exchanging it for a new KAISER unit please contact us.

Please find a listing of our available units as follows:

5. Hotmelt mixer 1.000 l

We have a used and completely refurbished melt stirrer available with a net volume of 1.000 l. This melt stirrer is able to produce 1.000 l batches of medium viscosity packaging and bookbinding hotmelt adhesives. It is equipped with a jacket heating for thermal oil heating, divided into a bottom part and a cylindrical part:

The motor is power is 15kW, and it is a motor equipped with a mechanical variable speed drive.
The vessel could be purged with a maximum overpressure of 1 bar and suitable for vacuum.
The switch cabinet is not available would be newly manufactured.

6. Bag Filling unit (production scale)

In 2008, we are replacing the bag filling machine in our test center. The existing bag filling machine is a production scale unit and is equipped with two different format pipes for two different bag widths of 150 mm and 230 mm. The unit, equipped with a suitable pump, is able to produce bags between 250 g and 1.200 g with a capacity of 500 – 1.000 kg/h.
The test unit will be also equipped with a ring cooling nozzle for cooling of the bags during the filling process.

7. Occasional turnkey Hotmelt plant

KAISER SBS could retrieve from his old customer, which is one of the biggest producers of Industrial adhesives world-wide, a complete and turnkey production plant for Hotmelts and Melt Pressure sensitive adhesives.

The unit was in use until March 2009 and is still in very good condition. It consists of special Hotmelt reactors, buffer tank, pipe work, pre-filter, pump and fine filter, a cooling belt unit with strip former and pastillator, a hot oil unit, 2 hot oil secondary oil circuits, the bagging line and a bag transport conveyor. A detailed description could be provided upon request.

KAISER SBS is not only able to provide the complete plant incl. engineering works, layout drawing, PID´s, and a complete plant manual but also the necessary expertise to produce various Hotmelt and Melt Pressure Sensitive Adhesives depending on the market demand.

The mixing setup is suitable and geared to produce any type of EVA/Metallocene and APAO based heat seal adhesive (for case sealing, laminations and  heat seal applications) and with its present setup can handle even highly filled (e.g. CaCO3) formulations as well as high viscosity – high temp APAO formulations.

The 30kw motor of the Kaiser SBS Hotmelt mixer allows for the safe (as compared to a sigma blade) mixing of SBC (SIS, SBS, SEBS) based  HMPSA’s (hot melt pressure sensitive adhesives) with viscosities of up to 30,000 cps (mPas) at 177° C as well as lower viscosity butyl grades.
This would cover 90% of all types of heat seal and 80% of all types of HMPSA’s presently being manufactured and used. With an upgrade of the motor to 60kw the rest could be manufactured as well.

These are the Hotmelts products and their uses in the market:

1. Laminating and heat-seal adhesives:

a. Case sealing adhesives in the packaging industry. Typically supplied in pellet form. This is an industry present in virtually any country making manufactured goods or growing fruits and vegetables.

b. Laminating and heat sealing of fabrics (synthetic or natural (e.g. cotton), fabric labels, automotive interiors, etc.) These are typically supplied in drums.

c. Laminations in furniture (e.g. edge-banding, partitions, etc) Also typically supplied in drums, but smaller users may need pellets.

d. Bookbinding

2. Hot Melt Pressure Sensitive Adhesives:

Typically supplied in drums, but smaller users might need smaller packages (the setup allows for the filling into pails and siliconized boxes). A future additional investment could be the new KAISER SBS Bag Filling technology.

a. Adhesives for tapes. Especially where tapes need a heavier coat-weight (>4mil (100micron) e.g. all tapes used in construction), hot melt pressure sensitive adhesives are the only viable alternative.

b. Adhesives for labels. Especially in smaller runs, users prefer PSA labels. With new polymer technology HMPSA’s match the temperature resistance of solvent based PSA’s and are superior at lower temperatures. Being inherently hydrophobic, HMPSA’s can be used in wet environments.

c. Adhesives for laminations, especially on foam. Many laminating adhesives do not work with the modern synthetic foams. Rubber based HMPSA’s are being used increasingly in these applications (foam packaging, fabric to foam laminations, mattresses, etc).

d. Self-adhering membranes used in construction - Think wide (1m+) construction tapes for waterproofing and insulation. This is the area with the largest growth rates and due to the heavy coat-weights (up to 40 mil (1mm)) these applications require very large amounts of adhesive. Typically supplied in drums.

e. Assembly of paper goods (e.g. fixation of credit cards to mailings)

f. Medical applications (e.g. band-aids)

g. Hygiene applications (diapers and feminine napkin construction)

In combination with the cooling belt, the unit could be used to produce high coat-weight SA-membranes and tapes in-line, an extremely rare capability, which is in high demand.

The raw materials used:

a. Rubber Polymers: EVA’s, Metallocenes, APO’s or APAO’s, SBC’s (SIS, SBS, SEBS), butyl, PIB

b. Resins: Hydrocarbon resins, Rosin based resins, Terpene resins

c. Plasticizers: Naphtanic oil, Polybutene, DPR

d. Wax: Paraffinic, Micro, FT, PE

e. Additives: Antioxidants, UV inhibitors, blooming agents

f. Fillers: CaCO3, Talc, Bentonite, Zincoxide, TiO2

Most of these ingredients are marketed by global suppliers and are available worldwide.
In most instances formulations can be modified to use materials that are locally available or more cost effective.

If necessary, EU or US sourcing and shipping can be arranged and might even be more cost effective.
We are able to give you more detailed information as soon as we know which type of Hotmelts and HMPSA could be sold in your market. The offered unit is flexible enough to produce for each application the right and competitive product.

In case of any question, please do not hesitate to contact us.

All listed units are available in Krefeld, Germany and ready for your inspection.

Please contact us if you are interested in a used unit and we will prepare a detailed quote for each individual machine.
